Video at the heart of gapyear.com’s plans

Gapyear.com is rolling out a new platform with a You Tube-style video model to come by the end of the year

Gapyear.com is rolling out a new platform with a You Tube-style video model to come by the end of the year.

The Gapyear TV facility will enable suppliers to upload video clips about the experiences they offer as well as allowing members to show clips of their holidays.

The site currently enables consumers to add reviews, photos and blog material as well as some supplier videos, which are part of a soft launch.

The platform will provide members with a new profile system including the video facility.

Founder and director Tom Griffiths said: “This will be the thing that completely explodes what we’re doing. Videos cross the language barrier and bring the product to life, which is vital.”

The company has also incorporated Wikitravel into the site and is revamping its travel guides section to provide downloadable PDF guides, which users will be able to provide content for.
