A UK security firm is using the internet to give overseas homeowners and travellers 24 hour surveillance of their properties via live webcams.

The system has been developed by Relfex and is an extension of its existing technology developed for large hotels.

Subscribers to the system will be able to view their property via the web on a digital camera through a secure connection.

Reflex managing director John Pye said: “The emergence of digitally converging technologies and the internet have brought high value security and access control service in particular within the reach of smaller property owners.

“The same approach we use when designing integrated technology systems for major corporates is also relevant for the increasing numbers of people with holiday homes both in the UK and abroad.

The development of the new system comes as UK-based residents continue to snap up property overseas, but are often only on site for a handful of weeks each year.

“Enabling customers to remotely view real time and recorded images of their property via the internet is just one way that we can offer holiday home owners peace of mind when the house is unoccupied,” Pye said.
