Visit London, the official tourist organisation for the UK capital, has relaunched five of its European language sites following extensive upgrades.

The new websites, in French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch, feature increased content and better functionality.

European users can now access event listings which were previously only available on the UK version of site. The new content includes 99,000 places to go, 13,000 events and 2400 places to stay.

Visitors to the new sites can also access over 100 features, including insiders’ tips for London pubs and restaurants, and a series of self-guided tours. European users can also keep on top of all the latest London trends with regular updates on shopping, sport, restaurants and ‘Top 10’ listings.

The upgrade has also improved usability with a better search function and the addition of TripAdvisor user reviews. There is now more tailored content with links to local booking agents and promotions. Tourists can be sure of finding their destination as maps have been added for every venue and hotel featured and there are also comprehensive transport guides onsite.

London is the number one city in the world for international travel, welcoming more overseas tourists than any other holiday destination on earth. Seven out of the top ten visitor markets to London are European and the new websites are part of Visit London’s ongoing drive to showcase the capital in the lead up to and beyond the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The sites have taken three months to redevelop and were completed by Visit London’s in-house digital team.

Visit London digital director, Josephine Adams said: “This upgrade puts our European sites on a much more even keel with the UK site as they now have a similar look and content. We are delighted that European visitors can see all of the exciting events happening in London and hope it will encourage them to visit us soon.”
