A mobile iPhone app with booking capability has been created for Etihad Airways by Travelport digital solutions subsidiary MTT.

Users will gain 10% discounts on flights and members of the airline’s loyalty programme will receive 250 bonus miles for every booking made through the mobile app before May 30.

Passengers pay for their tickets by scanning a credit card. They can check in for flights by using their mobile phone to scan their passport page. Boarding passes can be viewed from the app or downloaded directly to iOS Wallet.

The app enables travellers to navigate around Abu Dhabi international airport using indoor maps – claimed as a first in the Middle East.

It also incorporates high resolution enhanced seat maps, giving passengers a detailed layout of the cabin and their chosen seat.

Robert Webb, Etihad Aviation Group’s chief information and technology officer, said: “The mobile app marks a great step forward as we continue innovating new technology solutions to create more personalised and tailored digital services and products that benefit our guests.

“This is just the beginning as we continue adding new features which will further empower our guests with greater control and flexibility over the entire booking and travel experience including how they choose to interact with our airline.”

MTT chief executive, David Moran, said: “We are delighted to launch the new Etihad Airways app delivering mobile services which are a key component of the airline’s commitment to excellence in technology, innovation and delivery of personalised guest experiences.

“Etihad Airways is a global leader in the airline industry and we are delighted to translate their reputation for world class customer service and innovation into a modern, sophisticated, traveller-centric app.

“We look forward to our ongoing collaboration in bringing further advances in digital travel to Etihad Airways and its valued customers.”
