Shermanstravel.co.uk, the recently launched travel deal website, has set its sights on overtaking Travelzoo just months after a soft launch in the UK.

The website, which works primarily on the same principle as Travelzoo by emailing subscribers a list of travel deals once a week, has snapped up 200,000 subscribers since it launched in January.

It currently sends out the Top 25 deals each week. The site also includes content for specific deals, such as the “Editors Pick”, alongside specially generated material for the weekly bulletin.

Head of ShermansTravel UK, Ruth Bickerton, said: “This is an excellent start for us in the highly competitive UK travel market.

“We feel that our product, which combines objective editorial and advice, along with great deal listings appeals to users and distinguishes us from other deal only travel newsletters.

So far the company has limited its marketing activities to the likes of Yahoo and MSN’s Hotmail product, but

“We’ll be continuing our marketing efforts to increase our subscriber levels throughout this year in order to firmly position ourselves as the UK market leader in travel advice and deals publishing.”

The launch of ShermansTravel in the UK comes during a successful period for the US-based company.

It recently reached over three million subscribers for its US newsletter and also struck a deal with USAToday.com to supply deals to its travel section.
