Yahoo! Travel is to launch a dedicated pay-per-click ski and snow area on its website featuring live webcams, snow reports and resort information.

It will offer flight, car hire and ski holiday searches for winter sport destinations in addition to resort guides by Redspy and Skiinfo.

Several operators and airlines have already signed up for the venture, including Igluski.com, Virgin Holidays, Ski France, British Airways, Bmibaby and Thomsonfly, along with 12 car-hire firms.

Online agencies Opodo, Ebookers and Lastminute.com have also struck deals with Yahoo!

Yahoo! Travel European general manager Tim Frankcom said the search site will target both package and independent clients.

“Our aim is to offer a solution for everyone, whether they are looking for a package, just a flight or car hire,” he said. “For time-pressed skiers, boarders and chalet owners, a package is not always the best option.”

Customers looking for package deals will be able to use the ski and snow search to compare offers based on available dates, company and price.

Searches will bring up a range of options from participating companies with clients clicking through to the most relevant offer.

The section will feature reports – ‘where the snow is right now’ – with daily updated figures on snow depth and more than 500 guides to European, US and Canadian resorts. Live webcam views will show snow levels, date of last snowfall, weather and the percentage of slopes open.

“From novice skiers wanting to know how many blue runs the resort offers, to expert skiers, we are confident the section will provide all the information the user needs to pick the perfect resort for their personal requirements,” added Frankcom.
