Travel start-up Triptease has secured $7 million in Series A funding as it targets 10 million additional direct bookings for hotels this year.

Investors include venture capital funds Notion Capital and Episode 1, both of which invested in an initial seed round in February last year.

The firm, which provides digital tools to help hotels increase direct bookings, was founded by three friends in 2013 after co-founder, Charlie Osmond, felt his trip had been marred by the painful planning process.

The business is now working with chains including citizenM, Barcelo, Corinthia Hotels, Rocco Forte Hotels, SLS Hotels and One & Only.

“It’s crazy,” said Osmond. “We knew hotels were desperate for direct bookings.

“We tried and failed with a few initial ideas, but then suddenly hit on a little bit of magic.

“The impact on direct bookings was beyond expectations. We kept our heads down and launched two more tools.

“With this funding we will continue to invest in our products, which will help us deliver 10 million additional direct bookings this year.

“It’s going to be great for guests and great for hotels.”

The Triptease product set includes Parity Analytics, Enchantment Messaging and Price Check.

Its Price Check widget shows live prices from three OTAs on a hotel’s website.
