Travel dating app TourBar has seen big growth in older members.

The firm’s UK user figures show 2,630 travellers aged between 45 and 64 had an active membership in January 2016 compared to just 100 in January last year – an increase of 2,530%.

TourBar is a social networking platform where solo travellers can register their upcoming travel plans to meet with a fellow traveller with similar interests.

Members can also register as a guide for travellers visiting their home city alone.

There are now 2,000 active members from the UK in the 45-54 age bracket, with 75% of them being male.

The oldest of TourBar’s membership, aged 55 to 64 represents 630 UK members.

Teenage children leaving home for the start of the university term is thought to be one of the reasons behind the rapid rise in membership.

A TourBar spokesman said: “Over the past year we have seen the popularity of TourBar rise across all of our age categories, which is very exciting.

“It is encouraging to see the rise in membership levels across our two older age brackets as solo travellers aged over 45 grow increasingly confident with trying new methods to meet companions.”
