Travelport released an updated version of its agency sales solution Smartpoint.

It features performance enhancements, improved usability and new functionality that “significantly improves the selling experience for travel agents”.

Agents can now search for hotels by vicinity using a full or partial address and a hotel ‘billback’ solution has been integrated to increase security and save time by automating the manual reconciliation process using Virtual Account Numbers provided by eNett International.

This also allows a business traveller to stay at a hotel without having to pay their hotel bill on departure, as the payment is arranged between the guest’s Travel Management Company and the hotel.

SeatGuru has also been integrated to Smartpoint.

Travelport also announced this week that it has appointed a new executive vice president and chief financial officer, Bernard Bot, who will begin on January 1.

A Dutch national, who also speaks fluent English and French, Bot joins Travelport from Aer Lingus and will be based in the company’s global headquarters in Langley and will report into president and chief executive Gordon Wilson.

Bot will replace chief financial officer, Philip Emery, who will be taking a break in his career to spend more time with his family. The two will work together during the first few months of 2016.

Bot said: “I’m excited to be joining a dynamic management team that is leading positive change within the travel sector.

“I look forward to applying my knowledge and experience to the Travelport finance function and business at large.

“Travelport has significant growth opportunities and I look forward to working with Gordon and the team to capture these and create value for both business partners and shareholders.”
