Thomas Cook Group‘s web sites accounted for one-fifth of total UK sales during the winter season, according to its financials released this morning.

Unaudited pro forma results for the six months to end of April 08 show that UK web sales have increased by more than 10% compared with the previous winter.

In the half to end-April07, MyTravel and Thomas Cook’s combined online sales in the UK came in at 17.6% of the total. This winter’s 20% represents an 11.7% increase.

It has also increased controlled distribution in the UK, with 64.9% sold in-house compared with 61% last winter.

The appendix to the 50-page financial report says: “Controlled distribution is defined as the proportion of sales generated through our in-house retail shops, call centres and websites.

“Internet distribution is a sub-set of controlled distribution and is defined as the proportion of sales generated through in-house websites. Both performance indicators are calculated on sales value of departed passengers in the period.”

Thomas Cook Group’s Northern Europe division saw its web sales rocket by nearly a quarter, coming in at 36.1% of the total this winter compared with 29% last time. Northern Europe covers Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
