Kayak is developing an optimised version of its site for the Apple iPhone platform.

Travolution has learned the meta search site plans to launch the mobile interface for consumers in the next couple of weeks.

According to co-founder and chief executive Steve Hafner, Kayak has had a mobile site for some time but take-up of the service has not expectations.

Hafner was in London for the Travolution Summit last week and to interview candidates for sales and marketing as well as business development positions for Kayak in the UK and Europe.

He planned to see about eight people and said business development managers would be recruited for France and Germany and those countries reached scale.

The company has just sealed a deal with German online portal T-Online.

Hafner said: “We’re getting really good candidates these days. We have matured as a business so the risk profile is very different and people are seeing the potential outside the US growing.”

He also hinted perspective candidates in both the US and Europe were coming from companies including Google and Yahoo!.
