Youth accommodation specialist Hostelworld.com has developed a version of its service for iPhone.

iPhone users visiting hostelworld.com will be provided with a website specifically designed for the device.

Content on the service includes hostel ratings and photos and users can also make bookings and review previous reservations.

The site can also be bookmarked on the iPhone home screen for easy access.

Hostelworld’s chief marketing officer Niamh Ni Mhir said the company was constantly looking at new ways to target its audience.

“Backpackers are an extremely tech savvy market and are well known early adopters of new technology.”

The iPhone service follows hostelworld’s development of its mobile booking site, mobile.hostelworld.com, last July.

A recent survey conducted by the company found 95% of backpackers bring a laptop, digital camera, iPod or mobile phone with them when traveling.

The development of the service for iPhone was prompted by a significant increase in the number of visitors to hosteworld.com since the launch of the device.
