Leading European budget carrier Ryanair has hit 250,000 followers on Facebook just six weeks after launching its page on the social media network.

To draw attention to its page, the airline is running a ‘30 Names 30 Planes’ competition on Facebook for customers which will close for entries at the end of August.

Ryanair head of communications, Robin Kiely, said: “We’re pleased to have attracted a quarter of a million followers in the six weeks since we joined Facebook, on the day we celebrated the 30th anniversary of our first flight, and we look forward to bringing more great offers, content and competitions to our fans.

“Thirty lucky fans will have their name and face pictured on one of 30 Ryanair aircraft and we’ve had thousands of ‘30 Names 30 Planes’ entries so far.”

Ryanair’s Facebook page features the route news, competitions and offers, and real-time customer service and is part of a newly discovered enthusiasm for customer engagement by the airline as part of its “Always Getting Better” strategy.
