KAYAK insights advises travellers how to avoid the peak airport crush

KAYAK.co.uk has started offering its users advice about when to fly to avoid the worst queues at British airports.

KAYAK.co.uk has started offering its users advice about when to fly to avoid the worst queues at British airports.

While some of the insight derived from its data might come as no surprise to travel industry professionals, KAYAK hopes it will be of use to consumers with flexible travel dates.

The information is part of a wider revamp of KAYAK’s airlines pages that also show frequency of flights on certain routes throughout the week and a map-based flight tracker.

Unsurprisingly the summer is the busiest period for airlines in the UK with April, December and February the least busy months, although departures are limited.

What may be less well-known is that the second half of the month tends to be the busiest time at airports and Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the least busy departure days.

Loella Pehrsson, KAYAK regional director UK, Ireland & the Nordics, said: “At KAYAK, we’re lucky to have a wealth of travel options available at our fingertips.

“We know most travellers want to avoid crowds and queues so their trip can run as smoothly as possible.

“This means that being flexible and going against the usual travel cycle is key when it comes to the day, week or month to go on a trip.

“The Airlines pages at KAYAK.co.uk have recently been upgraded so our users can now search for flights with their favourite airline like British Airways.

“This, coupled with our insight into when the skies are busiest, gives our users the opportunity to book the best time to travel on their favoured airline, to their destination of choice, and avoid airport crowds at the same time.”
