A new strategic relationship has been established that will allow account holders of airline-owned payment network, UATP, to pay for hotel and rental cars through WEX’s virtual credit card solution (VCC).

WEX, a payment solutions provider, will make VCCs available to the entire UATP network, with Delta Airlines acting as the launch issuer.

James Pratt, WEX senior vice president, general manager of virtual payments, said: “Collaborating with UATP was a logical move to grow our virtual global travel payment platform.

“VCCs are an increasingly popular form of payment for travellers and we expect the solution to be picked up quickly and grow rapidly with UATP.”

The relationship will allow UATP corporate account holders to pay for hotel and rental cars through the VCC solution.

Corporate travellers will be given a single-use virtual credit card number which can be used in any currency that WEX settles. They will receive one consolidated travel statement for all of their air, hotel and rental car bookings.

Ralph Kaiser, president and chief executive at UATP, said: “Working with WEX, we have created a solution that will enhance the UATP network by allowing corporates to add hotels and rental cars to their UATP accounts.

“As the pioneer of single-use payment technology, we know that WEX will provide top-notch service to our network and its customers.”
