Ryanair website and app outage planned for ‘systems upgrade’

Ryanair’s website and mobile app will go offline for five hours from Tuesday evening, impeding customers’ ability to check-in or make bookings online.

Passengers will be unable to book Ryanair flights or check-in online for five hours from tonight due to maintenance work on the airline’s website.

The systems upgrade will mean the Ryanair.com website and mobile app will not be functioning between 9pm tonight (Tuesday) and 2am on Wednesday morning.

People due to fly today and tomorrow were urged to check-in online for flights yesterday before the closure of the website to avoid disruption. The airline was contacting passengers by text message to alert them to check in early.

New bookings or changes to existing flights will not be possible during the web closure, the budget carrier confirmed.

A spokesman said: “This web closure/systems upgrade will take five hours, from 9pm UK and Irish time on Tuesday until 2am on Wednesday, during which time our online check-in service will not be available.

“Flight bookings and changes will also be unavailable during this period.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this upgrade, which will further improve Ryanair.com, Europe’s largest travel website.”

Ryanair is reported to be in talks with rivals International Airlines Group and Aer Lingus about providing transfer connections from their long haul services for the first time.

Chief executive Michael O’Leary, quoted by The Times, said: “The advantage for them is they would get much cheaper short haul feed than they would from anybody else, but what they have to get themselves mentally over is that they would have to take responsibility for missed connections.”
