The luxury traveller makes up to 14 more purchases before their holiday than the more thrifty jetsetter.

That is just one of the findings of marketing technology firm Rocket Fuel, which has compiled an infographic documenting the online spending trends of the two groups.

The firm analysed the online advertising conversions of over 240 thousand travellers and believes the data can help travel retailers understand their clients better.

Findings include that luxury travellers make up to 18 purchases prior to a trip, compared to four for non-luxury travellers and that both luxury and non-luxury travellers are more likely to convert on dining, retail, and entertainment ads prior to a trip than non-travellers.

Dominic Trigg, Rocket Fuel’s senior vice president managing director Europe and emerging markets, said: “The infographic provides a visual snapshot of key findings that can inform retailers on the type of traveller to target. “The insight from this study is actionable for advertisers looking to build a closer and more relevant relationship with their customers.”
