Trivago, a pan-European user review portal which recently received funding from the Howzat Media investment vehicle, will enhance its social network capabilities in April and add its eighth local site.

The Germany-based company will unveil a raft of new social network-led functionality within the next two months as it also looks to grow in markets outside of its strong home base.

The new tools will include ‘friends’ features, recommendations, travel blogs, planning and the ability to share multimedia.

A site for the Greek market will be added by April, joining country sites for Germany, UK, Italy, Spain, Sweden, France and Poland.

The latest series of initiatives follows significant investment by Howzat Media – fronted by David Soskin and Hugo Burge from Cheapflights – in the company.

The funds will be used primarily for marketing, including PR, online advertising and keyword buying, in new territories.

Soskin and Burge invested around Euro 750,000 in the company in January this year.

The company currently attracts around 2.5 million unique users every month across its seven country sites.
