Former Expedia UK boss James Vaile is targeting UK and Europe travel technology companies as part of an international expansion strategy for the Roamfree Group.

Vaile is acting as a consultant for global online accommodation specialist Roamfree, which is seeking growth for its Australia-based Tourism Technology subsidiary.

He said that UK and Europe markets were the initial and primary focus and that the company had cash as well as a  ‘shopping list’ of potential acquisitions.

“We’re focused on going after any mover and shaker with robust technology which complements our existing technology. We want to expand our footprint primarily in the UK to get some scale.”

Tourism Technology is behind the Calypso Travel System technology, which is already used by British Airways Holidays and Qantas Holidays.

Vaile is already known in the UK as he spearheaded the launch of Expedia in the UK in 1998.
