Thomson is celebrating after securing the number one position amongst the most popular UK travel agency websites for the first time in the crucial New Year booking period.

Data from audience share measurement service Hitwise for the week ending 12 January saw Thomson leapfrog Expedia into first place.

The other eight agency sites during the period included Lastminute.com, First Choice, Thomas Cook, TravelSupermarket, Cheapflights, TravelRepublic, Teletext Holidays and
Ebookers.com.

The rankings are known to shift quite regularly to illustrate seasonal trends across brands.

Thomson secured the top spot ahead of Expedia in July, August and September last year but fell back to third position in November and December.

Thomson new media director Graham Donoghue said: “This time last year we were number two in the ranking but have now beaten Expedia to the ‘Number 1’ position.

“This is another great achievement for Thomson.co.uk and shows that all the developments during 2007 are helping to deliver a really unique customer experience.”
