Hotel cloud platform SiteMinder has acquired online reservation systems provider Globekey.
SiteMinder said the acquisition, completed this month, significantly increases the direct booking contribution from within Asia, particularly Indonesia and Thailand, where the majority of Globekey’s 1,200 global hotel customers are.
Mike Ford, co-founder and managing director at SiteMinder, said: “Globekey is a trusted company with a 15-year track record of operating successfully and establishing relationships as experts within the strategic Asian market.
“And with the ever-increasing importance of direct bookings, Globekey is well positioned to continue providing this most valuable product solution – as part of a complete distribution strategy – for hotels.
“Globekey is an excellent business with a loyal customer base and immense potential, providing us with the opportunity to accelerate the growth of the SiteMinder business through new insight into the Asian market.
Globekey, which launched in 2000 to provide online reservation systems for hotels, apartments, inbound tour operators and travel portal websites, will continue to operate as its own distinct brand.
The company’s founder and technical director, Rod Wilkinson, said: “Globekey is excited to be a part of a dynamic organisation that is founded on innovation and success, and we cannot wait to see even greater success with SiteMinder in the future.”
