Finnair will offer Wi-Fi connectivity in the majority of its fleet by 2018.

The airline’s board of directors has approved an investment programme to bring Wi-Fi to most of its wide-body and narrow-body fleet, at a cost of about €30 million.

The first on-board Wi-Fi will be introduced in autumn this year, with the arrival of the first Finnair A350 XWB aircraft.

Installations in the airline’s Airbus A330 long-haul aircraft as well as its short-haul European Airbus fleet will begin next year, with the process expected to be finished by 2018.

Pekka Vauramo, chief executive of Finnair, said: “This investment will enable us to offer a wide array of new services to our customers, ranging from inflight entertainment to inflight sales and ancillaries.”
