A loyalty programme app for the new Apple Watch is to be made available by Avios.

It will be offered when the Apple Watch launches on April 24.

The app will allow members of the Avios travel rewards scheme to view see their balance, be alerted when it increases, and help understand how to spend their points.

The Avios watch app will be available free to download from Apple’s App Store. Users will only be required to log in once with their username and password.

The app has the added functionality to appear as a widget in users’ ‘today view.’ This means users can instantly view their Avios balance without the need to separately open the app.

Gavin Halliday, managing director of Avios, said: “We are the first loyalty programme in Europe to launch an app for the new Apple Watch. This forms part of our commitment to digital innovation.

“The way that people interact with brands is changing and digital is a big part of that. We expect the watch interface to become an increasingly important screen in our collectors’ lives; we have launched this app to ensure that our members can find us there and easily see their balance, and ways to collect and use Avios.”

The Apple Watch will be available with different options, from £299 for an entry-level version to £13,500 for an 18 carat gold model.
