OTA eDreams turns to Japan in search of expansion

Spanish based eDreams, has continued its international expansion by opening in Japan. The OTA now has an international presence in forty-four countries.

From January, Europe’s largest e-commerce company will offer flights with more than 440 aircraft operators, over 550,000 hotels in 40,000 destinations and car rentals to Japanese travellers.

Pablo de Porcioles, director of business development, said: “Although price is the main reason why our over 15 million customers worldwide first used our service, eDreams’ levels of quality and service have always managed to exceed their expectations, making clients faithful to the company, and turning the company into the clients’ traveling companion.”

In its goal to become the largest OTA in Japan, eDreams has had to adapt its services to the tastes and needs of the Japanese market. This includes the language, currency and by adding a wide range of domestic and low-cost flights.

Porcioles added: “We hope that, in the not-too-distant future, Japan will be the largest travel market in the region. For this to happen, we have created competitive content that is able to successfully meet the demands of this market.”

According to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), over the last few years both international and domestic flights have grown significantly in Japan.

International flights have grown by 20% since 2004. Domestic flights, accounting for 80% of flights, have seen an increase of 11%.
