Oculus Rift-inspired Neilson app allows customer to ‘have a go before you go’

Neilson has unveiled a new app offering the chance to experience a Neilson holiday prior to booking.

The active holiday specialists have called the app Neilson 360, it’s available as a free download for smartphones, tablets and desktops.

The inspiration for the app was Neilson’s windsurfing simulator which uses Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR). Oculus Rift headsets give the wearer a 3D view of their virtual world, allowing the viewer to ‘look around’ while experiencing the activity.

Neilson 360 features windsurfing and skiing at two of Neilson’s destinations.

In order to film the images, a skier and windsurfer wore a head-mounted rig with six GoPro cameras.

The videos produced were stitched together using Oculus Rift technology, to give the viewer a 365 degree view.
