Dolphin Dynamics has developed a carbon footprint calculator tool to run within its TravelScanner system for travel companies.

The system uses data collected during the booking process – such as departure and arrival points and the number of stopovers – to produce a breakdown of the CO2 emissions created by each passenger.

The formula is taken from a system created by the UK government approved Carbon Consultancy.

The Dolphin system is aimed at use by both travel management companies and agents booking leisure trips.

Dolphin Dynamics president Roberto Da Re said: “Awareness of the carbon emissions linked to air travel has recently become one of the most topical challenges for the travel industry.

“Many corporates and consumers are conscious of the environmental impact of their flights and concern about the issue has led to demands from customers wanting more data.”
