UK start-up TransferTravel.com, a secondary marketplace for unwanted travel purchases, has been awarded the TrustSeal kitemark from peer-to-peer industry body Sharing Economy UK (SEUK).

The SEUK kitemark was created to increase trust in the sharing economy among businesses and consumers and is awarded to firms that meet a checklist of good practice principles.

TransferTravel.com helps consumers who can no longer go on non-refundable travel arrangements recoup some of their money by providing an online peer-to-peer marketplace to re-sell pre-booked travel products.

Simon Powell, chief executive and founder of TransferTravel.com, said: “We are delighted and proud to have received the Sharing Economy UK’s TrustSeal.

“Customers now have the reassurance we have their best interests at heart and that the right policies and procedures have been put in place to provide a safe and secure online platform.”

Alison Hastings, communications expert and member of the TrustSeal Advisory Panel, said: “The TrustSeal is the world’s first kitemark for the sharing economy and shows an industry willing to step up proactively to address issues of trust.

“As usage of platforms grows, the TrustSeal promises to be an even more important tool to help customers make smart decisions, feel safe and secure when they participate in sector.”

Powell said TransferTravel.com’s ethos is to foster trust by championing the consumer.

The site connects buyers and sellers around the world who want to sell and buy travel products ranging from spa breaks to luxury hotels, flights, rail, bus tickets and cruises and festival tickets.

TransferTravel.com offers a payment guarantee in place, but says the TrustSeal demonstrates its commitment to building trust among buyers, sellers and the wider business community.

The SEUK’s good practice principles lay out standards that sharing economy businesses should follow, ensuring that they act with integrity and maintain best practices.

TransferTravel.com provides clear guidelines on how to use the platform and has a customer team to provide back-up support.
