The founders of upmarket destination and hotel review site TravelIntelligence are to launch a new portal aimed at reviewing global travel ‘experiences’.

James Dunford-Wood and James Blackwell will unveil Worldreviewer.com in October 2007 in a bid to exploit the growing market for adventure, natural wonder-based and off-the-beaten-track holidays.

The duo have teamed up with over 100 top writers in their field including surfing champion Merrick Davis, volcanologist and NASA scientist Dr Rosaly Lopes, Himalayan explorer, author and Everest conqueror Steve Berry and ballooning adventurer Phil Dunnington.

Destinations and experiences will be catalogued based on the reviews of the site’s experts and user ratings.

Users will also be able to plan a “virtual world tour” on the site. Worldreviewer has recruited the services of computer science PHD Alastair James as one of the key members for the launch.

Dunford Wood, who stood down as managing director of TravelIntelligence in March 2007, said: “In recent years we’ve seen a boom in what has been termed ‘lifestyle travel’ but research now indicates a steady growth in ‘experience travel’.

“Savvy travellers want more than just a boutique hotel or a private beach and it is this growth that Worldreviewer aims to tap into.”
