Amadeus has increased its stake in tourism IT solutions provider Hiberus Travel IO Solutions to 95%.

It had held a stake of just under 25% since May 2015.

Hiberus Travel owns inventory management software firm TravelIO, which is used by Spanish and Latin American tour operators. The company previously belonged to Grupo Hiberus Tecnología, a part of Grupo Henneo, which will hold the remaining 5%.

Amadeus says the deal reinforces its strategic focus on the leisure seller market, in which it currently works with more than 2,000 tour operators.

Hiberus Travel, which will be known as Travel IMS, an Amadeus company, following the deal, is hoped to boost Amadeus’ investment in R&D – EUR 5.7 billion since 2004.

Pedro Espín, head of customer solutions strategy, will be general manager of Travel IMS, which will retain Hiberus Travel’s current management and workforce of 80.

Joost Schuring, vice president of EMEA at Amadeus said: “Travel IMS’s suite of products cover a broad set of IT needs for tour operation and fits well with our overall solution set, which is also an important component of our broader vision for travel sellers worldwide. We see great value in the technology and following this acquisition, we’re looking to further grow international adoption and help tour operators and other travel sellers improve their operations and expand their business.”

Grupo Hiberus Tecnología, in addition to holding the remaining 5% of Travel IMS, will also serve as strategic partner of the company and will provide software factory services to Amadeus.

Sergio López, partner and managing director of Group Hiberus, said: “I am convinced that Travel IMS has all the ingredients to become the world’s leading tourism management platform.”
