James McClure has been named by Airbnb as new general manager for the UK and Ireland.

Previously Google’s head of emerging markets for Singapore and South East Asia, he brings ten years experience in business development to grow and lead the UK market.

McClure will become the primary ambassador for Airbnb in the UK and Ireland, strengthening the brand’s presence both by driving supply and demand and “brand love,” according to the accommodation sharing site.

Olivier Grémillon, EMEA managing director, said: “We are steadily growing our business arm in the UK and James is a great addition to this team.

“His previous experience at Google gives him essential insight into what it takes to work for a fast-moving, innovative tech company.”

McClure added: “Airbnb is one of the most exciting brands of the moment, changing the way people travel and a beacon of the sharing economy worldwide. I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role.”
