Homestay hospitality management firm Hostmaker is expanding by opening an office in Lisbon.

The move to open a fifth location by the London-based company follows a $15 million funding round last month.

Lisbon has seen a 67% increase in rental properties since 2016 and Hostmaker wants to attract a breadth of hosts to the platform – from property investors to couples looking to rent a spare room.

The operation in Portugal will be headed by general manager Inês Nobre, who acted as operations manager during the company’s expansion in Barcelona last year.

Hostmaker has so far carried out over 150,000 services across Europe, growing at a rate of 400% year-on-year.

It currently operates in London, Paris, Rome and Barcelona – four of the largest global markets for Airbnb.

Alongside offering housekeeping from five-star hotel trained staff, professional photography, daily pricing reviews and quest relations, the platform also facilitates property profile and listing across platforms including Airbnb, TripAdvisor and Booking.com.

Hostmaker was founded in 2014 by Airbnb ‘superhost’ and entrepreneur Nakul Sharma, who said: “Every year we go from strength to strength, and we are delighted to introduce Lisbon as our newest city.

“We can’t wait to roll out the full service in January and look forward to welcoming new members to Hostmaker.

“This is an exciting opportunity to further develop the Hostmaker brand and become fully-fledged members of the Lisbon community.”
