Momondo wins Google’s Material Design Award for Innovation

Google’s Material Design Award for Innovation has gone to travel search site Momondo.

The award recognises best-in-class design and is a first for Momondo’s Android app, launched in 2011.

Winners were announced at this year’s SPAN Google Design conference in Pittsburgh.

Google commended momondo’s app for being true to the fundamentals of material design while still pushing the components into inspiring new directions.

Momondo lead product manager for apps, Pernille Trolle Broegaard, said: “To have won the category of innovation is simply a fantastic achievement for us.

“We build apps that are not only great to use, but we aim to perfectly express our brand using Google’s design guidelines as well as our own.

“With travel booking becoming increasingly commoditised, our app provides us with a way to extend our contact with users and to build a level of engagement that would previously have been impossible.”
