US travel search engine Kayak is unveiling a raft of new improvements this week as part of what it calls “Kayak 2.0”.

A series of new interfaces will be available for users searching for both flights and hotels.

Flights will be displayed in List View, Matrix View (allowing filtering) and Chart View, showing fare trends.

List View will be joined by tools using maps and photo for the hotel search facility. Car rental is also now available on the site.

Kayak claimed it tested 300 “mocks” for functionality before deciding on the new suite of tools.

Founder and chief executive Steve Hafner said: “Kayak.co.uk has a reputation for innovation. That’s why we continually enhance our site each month and why after only two years, we’ve completely redesigned the user experience to unveil Kayak 2.0.

“We are the only site to offer personalised search results for different types of users – from our Google Loyalists who wanted a bigger map to people begging for more photos and those who love our signature clean, clutter-free look and feel.”

Meanwhile, Kayak has launched a new search tool for flights, allowing users to see and compare fares available only during weekend periods.

Hafner added: “Several recent studies show travellers all over the world are taking shorter holidays, typically opting for long weekend trips.

“Yet, no travel site has effectively offered a search specifically for the flexible weekend warrior until now.”
