Payments for Airbnb properties can be split between members of the group in a new trial by the rental accommodation firm.

The pilot scheme is currently taking place with a small number of hosts in a bid to make it easier for groups to organise paying for the rental by splitting the bill.

It is understood that the payment method will be rolled out more widely if the trial proves successful.

Customers have long been calling for the payment method to be introduced to cut out awkward requests for money among friends and family and to reduce the likelihood of one group member taking on the full amount.

Airbnb spokesman  Tim Rathschmidt told The Next Web: “We’re currently testing a way to split the cost of a trip on the Airbnb platform. This is a small, initial pilot — our goal is to make it even easier to use Airbnb to travel with friends and family.”
