Online travel agent lastminute.com has released a list of its top ten city breaks for Easter.

Data scientists used “clever maths” which took into consideration travel time, cost of living and weather, among other things, to pinpoint the cities it says will make travellers time and money go furthest.

Riga, in Latvia, which averages more than fourteen hours of daylight in April and generally costs about £2 for a pint of beer.

The list was compiled after the travel site undertook research which found that more than half of Brits (53%) feel under pressure to squeeze as much in as possible when they travel, and over a quarter (27%) saying they would lie about having done something on holiday or stretch the truth to make it look like they’ve done more.

The top ten cities for Easter 2017, according to lastminute.com, are:

  1. Riga
  2. Amsterdam
  3. Paris
  4. Venice
  5. Krakow
  6. Rome
  7. Edinburgh
  8. Budapest
  9. Prague
  10.  Berlin

Yannic Pluymackers, chief marketing officer at lastminute.com said: “City breaks are a great way to see another part of the world and soak up some culture – but only having the 48 hours in a typical weekend to experience all a city has to offer means we often have to rush around, take shortcuts and make compromises in order to fit everything in.

“The Easter weekend presents the perfect opportunity to explore somewhere new – and, if you are savvy about where you go and how you plan your trip, it is absolutely possible to do everything you want to do and show off to your friends and family legitimately, without the clock ticking.”
