Ebookers has unveiled the first part of major redesign of its website including the implementation of its long awaited new technology platform.

The initial changes, introduced at the end of July without any PR activity or branding push, will be the first of a series of developments over the next few weeks.

The move signals the beginning of the end of a lengthy overhaul of the original Ebookers platform to one built by Orbitz Worldwide.

The technology will be introduced to each country market across Europe in due course including other Orbitz properties.

The new homepage has done away with the old central search and booking engine in favour of a two-window view containing search tools on the left and offers on the right.

It is understood that there has also been a dramatic increase in the number of hotels available.

There is also a sizeable boost to the number of images on the site and the introduction of user reviews.

Steve Barnhart, chief executive and president of Orbitz, said in a financial statement yesterday: “In late July, we successfully launched a new technology platform for our Ebookers brand in the United Kingdom.

“This was an important first step in rolling out our global technology platform.

“As additional country sites come online, we believe this new platform will enable us to steadily improve margins and sustain strong growth in our European businesses.”
