Business travellers trust email over social media for updates on disruption to their journeys, new research suggests.

Egencia, Expedia’s business travel arm, found that only 12% of UK business travellers want to hear about delays or disruption on social media and that 66% said they would prefer an email.

But the survey of more than 6,000 business travellers globally found that, when it comes to sharing travel tips, more than half of UK business travellers (58%) prefer to use social media to share recommendations with colleagues.

Lodging tips (91%) and ground transportation (84%) were ranked as the most important, followed by restaurant recommendations (82%) and then airlines (77%).

Ther research, carried out by Northstar between April and May, was compiled to coincide with the launch of the Egencia smartwatch app for Apple Watch and Android Wear, which offers business travellers real-time travel updates.
