Etihad Airways has expanded its smartphone app on which customers can book flights, check-in and download a boarding pass to Android.

The United Arab Emirates airline launched the app on Apple’s iOS system in April.

The app – which has more than 350,000 downloads from the app store – also allows users to check their flight’s status, log in to their Etihad Guest miles balance, search for flights, pay by credit card or scan their passports.

It can also be used to navigate Abu Dhabi International Airport and, on iOS, has accounted for 25,000 bookings and 130,000 check-ins to date.

Justin Warby, vice president of direct sales for Etihad Airways, said: “This is a step forward in our innovation strategy to enable a convenient, more personalised digital travel experience.  Our guests are central to how we develop these services, and their feedback has been important in the creation of this latest app.

Khawla Ali Albadi, head of technology and innovation at Etihad Airways, added: “Following on from the success of the iOS app earlier in the year, we’ve been keen to ensure we’re offering a full range of services to smartphone users.”

The new app is available to download via the Google Play Store and passengers get 10 per cent off flights by using promo code ‘ANDROID10’ and earn 250 miles for every booking made on their app before November 30.
