Travolution was the first publication launched in the UK as a news and views website and monthly magazine dedicated to the online travel industry.
Celebrating its 10th birthday this year, the brand was created by the Travel Weekly Group when it was owned by Anglo-Dutch publisher Reed Elsevier.
At the time Travel Weekly was a B-B trade publication dedicated to serving the traditional travel sector largely made up of travel agents selling tour operator product.
However, the disruptive power of modern technologies as well as the internet and pure play online new entrants like Expedia and lastminute.com, was becoming apparent.
It was decided this dynamic and fast-changing sector required had its own distinct readership both in the UK a farther afield, and so Travolution was born.
Over the years the sector has changed dramatically and so has Travolution, so that today it is a web-only publisher, although it does produce an annual technology investment Innovation Report.
Travolution also prints a special show guide for the Travel Tech Show at WTM, as part of its global media partnership with the annual London trade show.
Events form a key part of Travolution’s portfolio and it runs annual awards, culminating in a glittering night in central London in November, an annual day-long summit.
As well as those key events, Travolution also runs smaller half-day ‘digital lunchbox’ seminars focusing on a specific topic, roundtables, one-off breakfast events featuring senior industry speakers, and executive “digital masters” networking dinners.
It also partners with other events throughout the year including WTM, Travel Technology Europe, BrightOn Travel and London Technology Week, when it co-hosts an event with travel technology specialist Open Destinations.
As part of this year’s Travolution @10 celebrations, a number of bespoke events will be run in collaboration with key partners starting in March with a start-up summit sponsored by Travelport and Cheapfligths.
