Mr & Mrs Smith has leaped into the world of voice-activated search by creating a skill on Amazon’s Alexa.

Co-founder and chief technology officer Tamara Lohan will be unveiling the Mr & Mrs Smith skill at the Amazon Merchant Summit in London on September 13.

The voice-activated skill is designed to inspire people to travel. Users ask Alexa to help them find items from Mr & Mrs Smith’s collection – including hotels, city stays, beach breaks and honeymoons – based on personal preferences.

The luxury hotel specialists say the emphasis of the Alexa skill is on fun and ease of use; “not the complicated, drawn-out booking processes on skills created by travel companies to date”.

Users can save recommendations as favourites and listen to them later, and request a call back in order to book the room.

Lohan said: “We’ve always kept our finger on the pulse with new technology, and developing this voice app gave us the opportunity to work in a new, fascinating and fast-growing space. It’s still early days, of course; we’ll be able to develop the app further once we have data on how our customers are using it. Still, we’re really excited that voice is now part of our eco-system, and we hope it gives users genuine hotel inspiration – in recognisable Smith style – using nothing more than a few voice prompts.”
