Festive mobile searches up for Thomson and First Choice

More than half (53%) of all Thomson and First Choice holiday searches on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day were made via mobile phones and tablet devices.

More than half (53%) of all Thomson and First Choice holiday searches on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day were made via mobile phones and tablet devices.

Mobile bookings were up 97% and 61% respectively over Christmas Day and Boxing Day against the same period the previous year, new statistics show.

Thomson mobile bookings were up 158% on Christmas Day alone, against 2012.

New Year’s Day also saw a rise in bookings of 53% via mobile phone and 111% by tablet.

One single mobile transaction over the Christmas period came in at almost £10,000, demonstrating that consumers are increasingly comfortable making substantial purchases via mobile, according to the Tui UK sister operators.

The destinations attracting most bookings on mobile and tablet over the festive season were Tenerife followed by Sharm el-Sheikh and Majorca.

Thomson and First Choice marketing and digital director Jeremy Ellis said: “We have invested in fully mobile-optimised sites to improve the customer interaction with us at every stage – from searching for the perfect holiday right through to confirming the booking.

“We’re one of the first holiday companies to offer a fully mobile-optimised experience and it’s great to see how many people booked through these devices over the Christmas period.”
