Sunshine.co.uk claims Atol financial protection first

Online travel agency sunshine.co.uk claims to have become the first to be granted a Flight Plus Atol utilising the Civil Aviation Authority’s new Standard Atol Trust Deed.

Online travel agency sunshine.co.uk claims to have become the first to be granted a Flight Plus Atol utilising the Civil Aviation Authority’s new Standard Atol Trust Deed.

This gives consumers complete financial protection under both the terms of the Trust and the Atol scheme.

The move follows the company’s decision earlier this month to leave the Hays Travel Independence Group to become fully independent.

The new Atol Trust and the enhanced level of financial protection for customers came into force on November 12. Previously sunshine.co.uk customers were offered Flight Plus Atol protection under its membership of the Hays consortium.

Sunshine.co.uk said it worked closely with the regulator to achieve the new standing and to meet the CAA’s financial and protection requirements by means of the Trust.

Finance director Zoe Stewart said:  “As a company we are entirely focused on doing everything possible to help and support our customers and we are justifiably proud of the entire team who helped us to reach our goal of independence.

“We are providing our customers with the highest possible form of financial protection by means of the Atol Trust.”

She added: “I would like to thank the Civil Aviation Authority for their proactive help, support and guidance throughout this complex process.”
