Travelsupermarket has appointed its first manager for the flight division of the site as it looks to build the number of airline partners to 75.

Bob Atkinson will have responsibility for growing the flight part of the business beyond the existing partnerships of Ebookers, British Airways, Opodo, Airline Network, Virgin Atlantic and others.

Atkinson has a strong background in the airline business, having held sales, business development and operational positions at Avro, British Airways, CT2 Flights and Cheapestflights.co.uk.

Atkinson said: “The website’s dramatic development over the past two years proves it has got the customer experience right. I’m delighted to be part of this dynamic team and begin developing the website’s flight service.

“With the contacts I bring with me I hope to work closely with existing partners as well as expand them.”

The appointment comes during a highly important period for Travelsupermarket as it heads into 2007 with two new competitors from the US, Sidestep and Kayak.

Earlier this week Travelsupermarket added car rental company Budget to its list of suppliers of content.

Budget joins brands such as Avis, Alamo, EasyCar, Holiday Autos and AutoEurope.
