Sabre Travel Network has struck a deal with Italian rail operator Trenitalia that will see its fares made available to travel agents globally.

The deal will see Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca services accessible to 350,000 Sabre-connected agents alongside air fares, car hire and hotel rooms.

Results from the Italian rail company will be listed alongside air fares with the code 7T.

Gianfranco Battisti, Trenitalia managing director international and domestic distribution, said the deal will boost the firm’s global ambitions.

“Selling our fares through Sabre broadens our overall distribution strategy and is a crucial step towards meeting our ambitious global growth targets.

“While we will always retain focus on our home market in Italy, the relationship with Sabre provides us with invaluable access to points of sale around the world, and markets we have identified as having huge potential growth, such as the Americas, central Europe and Asia.”

Harald Eisenaecher, Sabre’s EMEA senior vice president, added: “Sabre is acutely aware of the importance of rail transport in Europe, and globally, and has invested heavily in developing technology to help rail operators grow their businesses and to provide bookers with a transparent platform to shop, compare and book fares.”
