Amadeus has strengthened its management team as it diversifies its hotel, rail, ground transportation and airport IT businesses.

Former Deutsche Bahn sales vice president Thomas Drexler has been recruited as director of rail.

He moves to Amadeus after eight years with the German railway company and was previously with Lufthansa in online sales and Amadeus’s German arm.

The appointment follows the company’s recently established new businesses division, led by new businesses vice president Francisco Pérez-Lozao, to invest in the company’s diversification.

He said: “Thomas’s combination of experience in the travel distribution, airline and rail industries is rather unique and makes him an ideal person to lead Amadeus Rail in times of rail deregulation and inter modal travel.”
