Amadeus is to create a dedicated division to target the growth in the UK and Ireland hospitality industry.

The GDS and technology provider has hired two senior figures, Guillamme Thevenot and Brian Garvan, to head travel agency relationships and IT sections in the new division.

The appointments come as the UK and Ireland hotel sector experiences a bumper increase – almost 14% – in occupancy rates in the past 12 months.

The creation of the division also comes as part of a wider programme to boost relationships between Amadeus and the hotel sector around the world.

Thevenot has joined Amadeus from Priceline-owned Active Hotels, where he had responsibility for relationships with major hotel chains.

Garvan was previously strategic account manager at Pegasus Solutions.

Amadeus managing director for UK & Ireland, Stephane Durand, said: “Amadeus continues to experience strong growth in the UK and Ireland and one area we believe we can make a real difference with our technology is in the hospitality sector.

“We are now at a critical stage where Guillaume and Brian’s experience will be put to great use in helping us to develop our hospitality offerings for travel agents and hoteliers and accelerate our expansion.”
