A company claiming to be the UK’s first independent retailer of rail season tickets has started operations in an effort to counteract rising train fares.

Ticketmunky.com, established by The Munky Business Group, will also offer what it believes is the UK’s “most generous reward scheme”.

Commuters purchasing rail season tickets through the site will be able to claim 5% back in holiday vouchers and spend them with more than 200 tour operators and travel companies.

The company is to offer season ticket finance for commuters to spread the cost over 10 monthly instalments, something normally only available to employees of large companies.

Managing director Matt Wigginton said: “A staggering two million people commute by train or tube every day and over 45% of all rail journeys are made by season ticket holders.

“Until now this experience has been thoroughly un-rewarding. Commuters have been faced with rising prices and limited choice, and this is where Ticketmunky comes in.

“Over the next few months we will see a commuter revolution as we launch a number of additional services including a delay claims service, plus special offers for customers to make their commute more rewarding.

“Meanwhile, until the end of January, commuters who spot ‘Munky’ out and about across the UK should upload a picture of themselves with him to our Facebook page, to be in with a chance of winning their commute free for a year.”
