Apple iPads are being deployed as a virtual concierge concept for guests staying at Morgans Hotels.

The boutique hotel company is trialling the digital alternative at rooms in the Royalton in New York with iPads set to be introduced at other properties later this year. The group also includes the Sanderson and St Martins Lane in London.

Content available via iPad includes a destination guide, access to music compilations, information on New York events and access to select movies and television shows. Mobile applications and services will also be included.

Guests will be able to interactively explore the hotel’s amenities, browse and order in-room dining options, communicate with the concierge about purchasing tickets to events, or arrange a car service.

The new platform also offers advanced communication tools for hotel staff, including real time messaging, notes from the general manager, messages about hotel events and information on specialty cocktails and featured menu items from the restaurants’ chef.

Hotel staff will be able to programme specific video or on-screen messaging for in-house groups.

The service is being introduced in time for New York Fashion Week in September.
