The Spanish Tourist Office is to throw its weight behind online for the first time during its annual STEPS exhibition in London next month.

The new section will run on both days of the event – 29 and 30 March at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Westminster – and feature workshops and seminars devoted to the role of the internet.

The first day will include workshops featuring the likes of Opodo, Expedia, Google, Ebookers and Lowcostbeds.

A seminar on the second day will debate the role of the outbound market and will be chaired by Travel Weekly editor, Richard Siddle.

The Spanish Tourist Office admitted the internet is now playing an important role in the Spanish tourist market.

“For this reason the Spanish Tourist Office in London considers this initiative an important one to reinforce the present and future of the travel industry and felt it important to show this during STEPS 2006,” the organisation said.
