American Airlines is linking up with ride sharing giant Uber to provide airport transfers in the US.

The companies plan to work together to provide customers faster service, better airport navigation, rider promotions and mileage promotions.

The arrangement covers 11 airports including JFK in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare and Dallas Fort Worth.

Passengers can set a reminder for an Uber ride with the help of Uber’s Ride Reminder.

After booking their flights on, the airline will send the e-ticket confirmation via email, and the customer can click on the ‘Remind me to Uber’ icon to set a reminder for their ride.

The American Airlines app has added functionality for navigation to guide customers to the nearest Uber pick up location at the 11 airports.

The airline’s partner marketing director, Scott Hinshaw, said: “We’re excited to partner with the only global ride sharing service to offer customers exactly what they’re asking for – a seamless travel experience, whether they’re in the sky or on the ground.

“By working together, we can provide a service that allows customers to request their Uber ride to the airport in step with their itinerary and know where to meet their Uber driver after their flight lands.”

Uber head of travel parterships, Jonathan DiOrio, added: “Whether you’re trying to get home to see your family, or heading to an important business meeting across the country, your travel experience should be seamless.

“We’re excited to work with American Airlines to ensure passengers have a great door-to-door experience.”

The deal comes ahead of American introducing Premium Economy on international routes with the delivery of the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner later this year.
